Procter & Gamble Manufacturing Guide

Had it not been for William Procter and James Gamble’s marriage of two sisters, they may have never met to form the global operation that Procter and Gamble is today. William, the maker of candles and James, a soap maker formed a business relationship by pledging $3,596.47 each. The combination of soap and candles were a natural since they both required lard and beef tallow to make, which are by-products produced by meat packing plants.

The knowledge that resulted from research and technology of their products played a key role in the development of other famous name brands we use daily. Crisco® was created using a hydrogenation process that turned vegetable oils (lard) into a solid. Research on detergent led to deodorant, skin care products and antiperspirants. While studying and testing skin care products, Procter and Gamble developed a prescription medication for the treatment of acne, Topicycline. Teeth whiteners used in Crest Whitestrips® evolved from the technology used in detergent and bleaching products.

Procter and Gamble produces many other famous name brands you see and use daily. Detergents and soaps like Tide Laundry Detergent, Comet Cleanser, Bounty paper towels, Zest soap and others. Paper products like Charmin and Puffs tissues are also commonplace along with Folgers coffee and pringles potato chips. What makes Procter and Gamble products the mainstay? Simple, they create everyday solutions for everyday problems.

Today, Procter and Gamble is a leading manufacturing of brands that touch the lives of people 3 millions times a day.
