O-Cedar Guide

O-Cedar History:

  • The "O-Cedar" name originated from the use of cedar leaf oil that was an ingredient in their products. O-Cedar Polishes were sold door to door in 1906 by Charles A. Channell or better known as "Good-Time Charley" who founded The Channel Chemical Company in Chicago, IL.
  • Within a few short years, O-Cedar had expanded their products nationally and in several foreign markets.
  • By the 20's O-Cedar began advertising on the radio and magazines.
  • In 1949, they introduced the sponge map with a squeeze down handle so hands wouldn't get wet.
  • Then in 1952, the American-Marietta Company purchased O-Cedar from the founding owners. With the purchase of the Modylin Company who was the maker of plastic brooms and mops, they created the first dust mop with plastic parts.
  • The company was sold again to the Drackett Corporation, a leader in manufacturing household chemicals.
  • Product campaigns were introduced across the country and in 1969, the Floor Master with it's innovative Power Strip was introduced. In 1971, the Angler Broom, which changed the original 200 year old design of the broom.
  • New products were added to their line and in 1992, the Drackett Corporation was acquired by S.C. Johnson Wax Company.
  • The company quickly changed hands and was purchased by a group of financial investors in 1993. The investors already held another company, Vining Industries. The two companies merged to become O-Cedar/Vining Household Products. Once again, the company changed hands in 2003 when it was acquired by the Freudenberg Household Products, LP. In 2004, the "O-Cedar makes your life easier" jingle was featured in 3 TV commercials.
  • In 2006, O-Cedar celebrated their 100th birthday!

Choose from a wide selection of O-Cedar's brooms, like the popular Angler or Maid's broom, made of a corn and yucca blend. The Deck Scrub Brush with palmyra bristles handles tough surfaces. The MaxiClean Fine Sweep is made with soft feather like tips for sweeping fine dust.

The Cotton Cut-End Mophead is an economical general purpose mop for multiple surfaces. The Healthi-Pro mop, designed for hospital and institutions that required anti-microbial protection is made of shrink resistant 4-ply yarn. Changing mop heads can be a nasty and difficult task, but not with the Quick Change Mopstick that has an easy trigger release.

The heavy duty MaxiClean Mop Bucket and Wringer keeps dirty water separate in the 36 quart bucket. It's easy to move with three inch non-marking casters that provide maneuverability on any surface.

Deck Scrub

You can also purchase an assortment of Scrubbers, sponges, wipes and cleaning cloths to clean whatever is dirty.
