The Kimberly-Clark company originated over 135 years ago when Thomas Seymour Scott and Otis Ballou started a wholesale paper business. By the 1880’s Kimberly-Clark had become the leading paper producer in the Midwest.
The Scott Paper Company, a division of Kimberly-Clark, famous for many "industry first" and mainstay products was the first to put toilet paper on a roll. In the 1900’s Scott Paper introduced America’s first paper towel. In the 1920’s Kimberly Clark was responsible for the cold cream towel, better known as the Kleenex facial tissue, which was marketed as a disposable handkerchief. Kleenex also released the first Pocket Pack Tissue. During the 1950’s Scott Paper was the first to advertise Scott bathroom tissue on television. By the 70’s Kimberly-Clark released Huggies diapers, followed by Pull-Ups training pants in the 80’s. Their passion for improving the health, hygiene and well-being of people prompted the invention of five of their eight major consumer products. Each day, 1.3 billion people are touched by the products they produce.
