Trained professionals use either a solid brass or heavy gauge stainless steel that is heavily nickel-plated for the original base. A nickel primer forms a strong bond and protects the silver from pitting or scratching. Generous coatings of quadruple plating with hotel-grade pure silver are then applied. The final process consists of polishing the piece to a smooth gleaming luster that will last for years.
