We understand that children are not fans of vegetables; it’s something that grows on most people as adults. A simple batch of roasted carrots can be as appealing as a pack of sugary snacks.
Tropicana has announced a new line of drinks called Farmstand. The initial three highlight their fruit inclusion; strawberry banana, peach mango, and pomegranate blueberry flavors hide their vegetable inclusions of sweet potatoes, yellow and orange carrots, and beets. Tropicana will be performing a balancing act on advertising and packaging, with enough veggies advertised so parents will be able to get them hooked, while the veggies themselves are hidden both on the bottle and in the flavor.
Cucumbers, zucchini, purple carrots, and tomatoes were all considered during the formulation process (and may yet end up in future variations), but none of the flavors releasing in December at Walmart will include these. The Farmstand line will go full-release early next year.
Tropicana is banking much of its success on the fact that the Farmstand drinks will be kept in the cold case, implying a higher quality product (versus drinks that don’t need to be refrigerated). The calorie and sugar content is roughly the same as a regular glass of orange juice, but the added benefit is seen in the addition of veggies to the default fruit flavors.
