Okay, technically they’re not Ruffles, but you try coming up with a word to fit into that title.
On the list of “odd things Asia has that we’d try at least once”, Lay’s has introduced a new flavor of potato chip: Pepsi And Chicken. It’s not the first Pepsi-formulated product to sound odd to Americans, with the fat-block Pepsi Special and the special Pepsi White currently on shelves in Japan, and it really isn’t that odd to China.
Cola-cooked chicken is apparently a regular, or at least not-uncommon, dish in China. Whether boiled, fried, or marinated, cola and chicken surprisingly work well together; in America, we have beer-can chicken to equate it too.
So, while Pepsi-flavored chips would be an oddity, chicken flavored chips wouldn’t , and therefore cola-cooked chicken chips isn’t exactly the most absurd concept.
Why Pepsi? Pepsi owns Frito-Lay if you forgot. It’s called synergy.
I’d give them a try if they were around.
